Types of braces
At Align & Smile Orthodontics in Canary Wharf, we offer a range of orthodontic appliances, including braces, aligners and appliances. At your free consultation, our specialist orthodontist will recommend the best appliance for your orthodontic needs.
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment method which uses clear, plastic aligners to move your teeth into position. These aligners are virtually invisible so no-one will know you’re having treatment. They can be used to fix major and minor orthodontic problems and can achieve results faster than traditional braces.
A real benefit of Invisalign aligners is they can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. This means they won’t impact on your lifestyle. For more information about Invisalign, visit our Invisalign treatment page.
Lingual braces look like traditional metal braces but there’s one distinct difference. You can’t see them because they are fitted to the inside surface of your teeth, next to your tongue. Individual brackets are fitted to the back of each tooth and an archwire connects each bracket. This combination of parts works to apply gentle force to your teeth, encouraging them to move into a straighter position.
When the lingual brackets are first fitted, they will affect your speech slightly. Just practise talking at home and to yourself in the mirror and within a couple of days, your speech should return to normal. You can also expect some soreness of your tongue, particularly if the lingual brackets are on your bottom teeth.
Lingual braces are one of the most effective orthodontic appliances we use here at Align & Smile Orthodontics.
The Inman Aligner is the perfect solution for crowding or protrusion of the front teeth. A simple removable appliance that is custom-made to your teeth, the Inman Aligner is used to gently guide your front teeth into an ideal position in as little as six to 16 weeks. It can also be used to prealign teeth prior to cosmetic treatment, such as bonding or minimal veneers.
How does it work?
The Inman Aligner has Nickel Titanium coil springs that power two aligner bows that gently oppose each other, guiding the teeth into their new position. These gentle forces are active over a very large range of movement, which is why the Inman Aligner works so quickly. All you have to do is wear the aligner for 16-20 hours each day and come in for a check-up every two to three weeks.
The image shows the squeeze effect of the two aligner bows on the front teeth. The inner bow pushes forwards, while the outer bow pulls back on the front teeth.
Clearstep’s clear positioners are comfortable, clear and easy to wear. Made from wafer thin, medical grade plastic, the clear positioners are manufactured specifically for you. The positioners are worn in a series of two-week periods which gently align your teeth to their desired destination helping you to attain that perfect smile. The clear positioners are ideal for straightening out overlapping, crooked or spaced teeth.
The Clearstep™ System is comprised of clear positioners as well as other methods of orthodontics which can help treat the more difficult cases that the positioners alone cannot treat. These methods include a variety of appliances which work in tandem with the clear positioners to achieve that final goal of crafting your perfect smile, ‘invisibly’!
Twin Block appliance
The Twin Block appliance helps to align teeth which are sticking out by maximising the genetic growth of the lower jaw. By restraining the growth of the top jaw and tipping the upper teeth back, the Twin Block appliance pushes the lower teeth forwards to achieve a more even smile. For the best results, patients must wear the Twin Blok appliance for 24 hours a day for six to nine months.
