Who needs
orthodontic treatment
Patients with missing teeth, jaw growth problems and crowded teeth can all benefit from undergoing orthodontic treatment. Common reasons for orthodontic treatment include:
- Lower jaw protrusion or protruding upper teeth
- Missing teeth
- Crowding or spacing between teeth
- Bite issues, such as a cross bite, open bite, deep over bite
How long does treatment take?
For a child or teenager, treatment will roughly last between 12 to 18 months, but treatment times vary from patient to patient. Once we have assessed your orthodontic treatment needs, we’ll provide you with a treatment plan that includes the proposed length of treatment time.
Do braces hurt?
Orthodontic treatment doesn’t hurt, though at times you may experience some discomfort. This is usually when you first have your appliance fitted and again at each tightening appointment. Once your teeth have readjusted themselves this discomfort will go, but in the meantime you can relieve it with over-the-counter pain relief, much like you’d take for a headache.
How much does treatment cost?
The cost of treatment varies for each patient. This is because it is dependent on the type of appliance you are fitted with and the extent of your orthodontic problem. We will provide you with a bespoke treatment plan that includes a quote for your treatment, but an initial fee guide is available on our cost and finance page.
Can I clean my teeth with braces on?
Yes, and it’s important you keep them clean throughout treatment. The healthier your teeth are, the better the results. At Align & Smile Orthodontics, we recommend the use of orthodontic brushes for cleaning teeth. These brushes provide a longer filament head to improve access around appliances. We’ll show you how to use these and the best brushing techniques to keep your pearly whites clean.
I’m too old for braces, aren’t I?
No one is too old for braces. But it may be that you don’t have to wear braces and instead could have Invisalign treatment which consists of thin, plastic aligners. At Align & Smile Orthodontics we believe no one is too old for the perfect smile, which means no one is too old for treatment!
Do you offer Invisalign?
Yes we do offer Invisalign. And our team are highly experienced using this orthodontic treatment method so can recommend it to patients for both major and minor orthodontic problems.
